The side event will examine some of the most notable cases of the politicisation of the Public Prosecutor's Office against the backdrop of the erosion of the rule of law in Poland. For the first time, an array of high-profile entrepreneurs and executives who fell victim to arbitrary detention, corruption attempts and other forms of state harassment will tell their stories, accompanied by expert commentary from the author of Poland's shift to a market economy, former Deputy PM Prof. Leszek Balcerowicz.

The event will feature:

Prof. Leszek BALCEROWICZ - economist, Chairman of the Council at the Civil Development Forum, former Chairman of the National Bank of Poland, Finance Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Poland;

Przemysław KRYCH - Polish entrepreneur, investor, and philanthropist, founder of Cornerstone Investment Management and Griffin Real Estate; the largest donor of the Investigative Journalism Initiative of Gazeta Wyborcza, the leading liberal daily in Poland; in December 2017, Mr Krych was arbitrarily detained by the Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) and arrested on fabricated charges;

Piotr OSIECKI - Polish entrepreneur, founder and CEO of Altus TFI, the largest independent asset management company in the CEE until he was targeted by the PiS government with corporate raidership; accompanied and represented by attorney Katarzyna SZWARC;

Jakub KARNOWSKI, PhD - economist, independent Board Member in Poland and Ukraine, lecturer at the Warsaw School of Economics, former President of the Board at Polish State Railways (PKP) and Chair of Supervisory Board of PKP Cargo, targeted with bogus charges as revenge for his anti-corruption activities;

Introduced and moderated by Martin MYCIELSKI - Vice-President of the Open Dialogue Foundation, with welcome from Bartosz KRAMEK, ODF’s Chair of the Supervisory Board.
